The move by the government to air its video version of the Bersih 3.0 rally in an attempt to portray protesters as violent has been mocked by PAS's Mahfuz Omar, questioning its long delay of more than a month after the protest took place.
"People involved in the rally have published its pictures and recordings on the same day it took place.
"Why does the Home ministry have to wait more than a month to show its recording?" asked the PAS vice president.
He said the video could have been edited by the ministry to deceive the public, saying it would become a laughing stock.
He further said it "does not make sense" that a ministry flushed with a large budget was far behind ordinary citizens who had uploaded photos and video recordings of the rally without any financial allocation.
Earlier, Home minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the government's video version of the events was ready and would be available at the ministry's website.
But Mahfuz asked that if indeed the recording would prove the government's claims against protesters, why only now it was showing it now?
Mahfuz described Hishamuddin's announcement as hasty, saying it was a reaction to the recent survey finding of prime minister Najib Razak's declining popularity.
