MIC man: Hang Umno MP instead

MIC leader S Vell Paari says the Sri Gading MP who suggested that S Ambiga be hanged for treason should be sentenced to death instead for possessing a low IQ.

PETALING JAYA: Without mincing his words, a MIC leader has called for the hanging of an Umno lawmaker, whom the former accused of suffering from a lack of intelligence.

S Vell Paari launched a stinging salvo against Sri Gading MP Mohamad Aziz for suggesting that Bersih chairperson S Ambiga be hanged for treason.

The MIC central working committee member pointed out that all political parties, including those in the opposition, had such characters in their ranks.

“As for Mohamad Aziz, he should be hanged for having a low IQ. I believe somebody must have dropped him on his head when he was young,” he told FMT.

“This is how we shoot ourselves in the foot. As some have pointed out, it is BN which makes Ambiga and Bersih popular to the ruling coalition’s detriment,” he said.

Vell Paari said the Umno MP had also taken a racist stand by targeting Ambiga and not Bersih’s co-chairperson A Samad Said.

He vowed to raise the matter during MIC’s CWC meeting tomorrow to push the party leadership to voice its protest over such insensitive statements.

“The Indian community is angered by the continued attack on Ambiga and it is time for the MIC leadership to put its foot down.

“This is not about winning votes but to stop the harassment of a well-respected woman,” he said.

‘Do we hang them all?’

Vell Paari also criticised Mohamad Aziz for comparing Ambiga’s actions with that of the Al-Mau’nah whose members were sentenced to death for waging war against the King.

Describing this as ridiculous, the MIC leader reminded the Umno MP that the previous King had even granted an audience to the Bersih leader.

“Her only weapons of mass destruction were her yellow T-shirt and mineral water bottle, not really the kind of tools one would use to wage war against the King.

“More than 100,000 people participated in the Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28, so do we hang them all?” he asked.

Vell Paari also expressed sadness that Sri Gading, which was once the seat of former premier Hussein Onn, had now fallen into the hands of an “incapable and inferior-minded” politician.

During the debate on the supplementary bill in the Dewan Rakyat last night, Mohamad Aziz had posed the question if Ambiga should be hanged for treason towards the King.

“Traitors should be punished as harshly as possible,” he said.

The Umno MP also stressed that he was willing to shed his blood for this nation, drawing a thunderous applause from his fellow backbenchers.

Reiterating his call on Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to engage Ambiga in a dicussion, Vell Paari also urged the authorities to drop their legal actions against the Bersih leader.

He said the traders who spray-painted the road outside Ambiga’s house should also be charged with vandalism.

“Police personnel and DBKL staff were also stationed outside Ambiga’s house because of these traders and protesters.

“So shouldn’t DBKL send a notice to the traders like how it sent one to Ambiga to claim for overtime and meal allowances for its staff?” he asked.

MIC chief: Put an end to this

In a related development, MIC president G Palanivel broke his silence over the attacks being launched against Ambiga.

Criticising the Sri Gading MP for his remark, he said: “It is not right for a MP to say that Ambiga should be hanged.”

“Why is she being made the scapegoat?

“Why didn’t these people demonstrate or put up burger stalls outside the houses of other Bersih leaders?” he asked in a statement.

Palanivel urged the prime minister and other BN leaders to put an end to this, warning that it would affect Indian votes in the coming general election.
