Minister apologises for 'indecent' K-pop concert

The Youth and Sports Ministry apologised today for any of the K-pop performances at last week's Million Youths Gathering 2012 that may have offended any party in the country, Malay daily Sinar Harian reported today.

Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek promised to be more considerate in future to ensure that such an incident is not repeated.

NONE"I apologise to all parties if they felt offended with the K-pop performances, which were said to involve indecent clothing," the daily quotes him as saying yesterday.

Ahmad Shabery was responding to Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria's comments last Tuesday criticising the performances, saying the youth event should not be tainted with foreign artistes who act and dress indecently.

PAS Youth information chief Riduan Mohd Nor has also denounced the performances, labelling them "sinful".

Ahmad Shabery said he accepted positively any feedback from all sides regarding the programme.

"Maybe there were a few events that need to be looked at again. I am very open, but there are a lot of other things to be seen.

"Many religious and human capital programmes were also held," he said.

Also yesterday, Ahmad Shabery visited the three youths at Hospital Putrajaya who were seriously injured during a drag race accident last Saturday, where a racer lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the crowd.

He said that the conditions of the victims were improving, and that the Youth and Sports Ministry would help cover the victims' medical costs.
