KOTA BARU- Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat agrees if PAS supporters cancel their plan to perform the Haj this year if the coming general election is held during the Haj season.
However, he said, he was not issuing an official directive on this as it was up to the party top leadership to decide.
He said Islam did not make it compulsory for them to perform their Haj even though they had been listed as pilgrims for this year.
"The Prophet himself performed the Haj in the 10th year although the Quranic verse on the Haj as an obligation for Muslims came in the 6th year," he said after launching a state-level St John Ambulance of Malaysia mass cardiopulmonary resuscitation programme, here, today.
Nik Aziz said although compulsory and the fifth tenet of Islam, the Haj could be performed any year.
PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had through a pro-opposition news portal, asked PAS members directly involved in the coming elections to postpone their Haj trip if the elections are held around the Haj season.
