'Southern tsunami' would favour us, not the opposition - BN

'Southern tsunami' would favour us, not the opposition - BN
KUALA LUMPUR -Several Barisan Nasional (BN) member of parliaments (MP) have refuted claims by PAS that a so called political 'southern tsunami' would hit BN in the coming general election.
They said that if such an event occurred it would benefit BN instead and were confident Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka would remain under their power with the people's continued support.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali was reported by newspapers recently as saying the opposition was confident of winning the three states because they claimed a political 'tsunami' would occur in their favour during the coming general election.
Dismissing the claims, Jasin, Melaka MP Datuk Ahmad Hamzah said the opposition's influence has actually been on the decline lately.
"As for the tsunami, I feel it will occur through the people's support of the BN party and its government winning all the seats in Melaka," he told Bernama here today.
He added that the people's awareness was based on the desire for continued development and the consistent efforts by the government through its transformation programmes.
Muar, Johor MP Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the opposition may say whatever it wanted but the 'tsunami' claim was not based on anything concrete.
"If it was based on performance, I don't see the people's confidence in them as their coalition is very brittle. And the quality of their work is far behind compared to BN," he told Bernama.
Razali, who is also Youth and Sports deputy minister, said the opposition merely made vague promises and relied on sentiments, emotions and lies to garner support.
Jempol, Negeri Sembilan MP Datuk Lillah Yassin said," The core votes in Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan come from the Malays, with support for BN from the Indians and Chinese as well."
"Felda is a big component here and the majority of Felda settlers will support BN. And furthermore, the people have started to benefit from all the Prime Minister's promises and they're very grateful," he said.
