SULUK GROUP: INCLUDE US IN THE PANEL

SANDAKAN: The United Suluk Community Organisation (USCO) lauded the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to address the illegal immigrant issue in Sabah.

Its President, Bentan Alamin, said the setting up of the RCI reflected the sincerity of the Government in addressing the issue that is known by the people to be very a complicated matter.
However, he hoped Usco together with Parti Kebenaran, which he is representing would be included as panel members of the RCI so that they could also voice out their views.

"I believe it is time that we discuss to find the truth and not turn the mass media as the battle field," he said, adding that issues related to the RCI had also been raised by political parties.

"The Suluk and Bajau communities are natives of this State and not migrants from the neighbouring country coming into Sabah without any document," he said.

He also dread to imagine the feeling of someone who had valid identity documents for years but still considered as migrant. - Sabahkini

  1. Hope that the Federal Government will make the right choice in selecting the panel members for RCI.

  6. PBS has been very consistant in voicing out the abnormal ' "increase of population' that has been the norm here in Sabah. It might be best that the state government to utilize the resources and expertize from our local tertiary institute such as The School of Social Science, UMS as well as UiTM that houses intellects and expert on this subject.

This independent research can be done whilst the finalization of the Term of Reference for RCI on Illegal immigrant is being carried out by the Federal Government. The Independent research too will serve as a preliminary data gathering that can be done ahead of the RCI. This will save a lot of time once the RCI is in full swing in the future.

    1. Indeed. Prior to this, Pairin and other KDM leader share a common concern over this matter and continuously push for this matter within the State Cabinet up to the Federal Administration.

The way I see it, This RCI is not a definite solution to the question of illegal immigrants; but I believe that this RCI serves to look into the issue that concerns it. Hopefully with the findings of this form of public inquiry, it will have a significant impact on policy as well as action plans burrently undertaken both by state and federal level to handle this question.

Apart from that dealing, I believe when handling with this question, our actions MUST be in accordance with the 'rules of engagement that has been set up by the UN.

  7. Coming back to the matter of citizenship, nationality law is mentioned in the Constitution of Malaysia. A Malaysian citizen born to a Sabah resident would have Sabah residency, regardless of where the person was born. Birth in Sabah or Sarawak alone does not make a person a resident unless one of his/her parents is a resident.

A person may become a Sabah resident by obtaining Permanent Residence (PR) status issued by the state immigration department. The residency status of a person is indicated by a letter on his/her MyKad below the photo, with, H for Sabahans In all accounts, the MyPR holders are not subjected to vote as other citizens of Malaysia .

As for the IMM13, the Sabah government has not issued the IMM13 document to Philippine nationals living as refugees in the state since 1984, said Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.

However, Musa said that the children of existing IMM13 document holders could apply for the same document to enable them to stay with their parents in Sabah.

  8. The government has agreed to set up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate problems related to illegal immigrants in Sabah, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced recently.

This is indeed a positive indicator that the government was committed to resolving the issue as it could affect the well-being of the people of Sabah.

Sabahans OUGHT to take advantage of this RCI and together with the government find the strategies and best approaches to tackle the problems concerned.

  9. It's not suprise since our nation's democracy is modeled after the Westminster system. Therefore it is not a not a new concept with respect to the Royal Commission.

It is a major ad-hoc formal public inquiry into a defined issue but restricted to the "Terms of Reference" of the Commission. The Royal Commission "act in the stead of the Sovereign to grant Royal Assent to legislation passed by Parliament".

The question of the efficiency if this Royal Commission is still too early to determined due to the a fact that the Royal Commission of being restricted by the Term Of Reference. Until this TOR has been finalized, one can only speculate, just as before before the anouncement of the RCI.

  10. KDM ONLY ACKNOWLEDGES SAMA ETHNIC, AND NOT BADJAO AND SULUK. PLEASE REFER TO GENERAL COMMONWEALTH STATISTIC, WHERE IT MENTIONED KDMR IS THE LARGEST RACE IN NORTH BORNEO FORMING 42% OF NB POPULATION,FOLLOWED BY 20% OF BAJAU(SAMA) WHICH OCCUPIED THE FERTILE LAND OF KOTA BELUD, OTHER RACES LIKE KADAYAN, LUNDAYOH, BRUNEI FORMED 10-8% OF THOSE FIGURES. AND THE ORIGINAL NATIVES OF SABAH IS KDMR AS MENTIONED IN ALL HISTORICAL ARCHIVES, ARTIFACT AND USURP IN BRITISH DOCUMENTATION. SULUK IS PHILIPINE ORIGIN AND CLOSELY RELATED TO BANGSAMORO OF SULU AND ZAMBOANGA. SULUK IS NOT BUMI AND SHOULD NOT/NEVER BE RECOGNIZED AS SUCH OR EVEN GIVEN NATIVE STATUS. BE GRATEFUL YOU PEOPLE LIVE PEACEFULLY HERE COMPARE TO YOUR WARRING ISLAND IN SULU,PALAWAN, ZAMBOANGA ETC. DONT ASK MORE FROM WHAT YOU ALREADY GET. THIS IS NOT YOUR NATION! THIS GOES TO JAWA AND BUGIS. YOU ARE ALL FEEDER TO MAHATHIR PROJECT IC.
