Umno to wrest back five seats in the federal territory

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Umno is confident of Barisan Nasional (BN) wresting back the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat, as well as four other seats in the Federal Territory which it lost to the opposition in the 2008 general election.
Federal Territory Umno liaison secretary, Datuk Wira Syed Ali Alhabshee, said this was based on the positive perception of the city folks, especially the young generation, towards Umno and BN.
The other four parliamentary seats are Batu, Titiwangsa, Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak, he said in his blog, www.umnobahagiancheras.blogspot
He said the overwhelming public response to programmes carried out by the government in the Federal Territory reflected that the people were now fed up with the opposition for making empty promises.
“We have seen the changes. There’ll be a political tsunami when the city folks, disappointed with the empty promises made by the opposition, shift their support to BN” he added.
On the selection of candidates for the coming 13th general election, Syed Ali, who is Cheras Umno division leader, said all Umno division leaders in the Federal Territory would leave the matter to the wisdom of liaison chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“The question on who will be the candidates is not a big issue. What is crucial is for us in the Federal Territory to work hard to ensure victory for Umno and BN,” he added.
There are 13 parliamentary seats in the Federal Territory. BN only won three seats, Putrajaya, Setiawangsa and Labuan, in the 2008 general election. — Bernama
