MCA bars Soi Lek from debating Guan Eng again

The MCA presidential council has barred party president Dr Chua Soi Lek from engaging in further debates with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Speaking to reporters after the council met this afternoon, Chua said the council made the ruling because Lim abused the previous two debates to “attack others”, rather than to articulate on the topic.

“They feel that I am wasting my time. They feel that Lim is just using the debate to attack others. He does not reply to any questions asked,” he said.

“He planned to come here to do a ceramah, not to participate in a debate.”

Chua was referring to their public debate on Sunday on “Whose policies benefit the country more”, organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli).

Immediately after the debate, Lim shot down suggestions that he should debate Chua a third time and instead urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to accept PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s debate dare.
Anwar didn't support TARC
On former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's criticism against the federal government's recognition of Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) certificates, Chua said MCA it was a regretful remark.

Chua tried to play down Mahathir's criticism, instead pointing out that TARC most aggressive expansion period was during the latter's premiership.

Conversely, Chua said Anwar Ibrahim, during his tenure as education minister, was not supportive of TARC.

Switching his attention to Anwar, Chua challenged Chinese educationist Dong Zong to ask the former if Pakatan Rakyat would build more Chinese schools should the coalition form the next federal government.

"If Dong Zong raise this issue, Anwar might reply. If MCA raise it, Anwar will not reply," said Chua.
