Aunty Mei to know fate in two weeks' time
The police have yet to decide whether to press charge against the septuagenarian who had a round of vulgar exchanges with Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob two weeks ago, which saw the state leader attempt to pacify her with a cash offer.
Tuw Yin Lan (left), who is 71 and popularly known as Aunty Mei, reported back to the Kuantan police district headquarters this morning with her friend Wong Chun Yuan.
Wong was arrested together with Tuw on Dec 12 when he tried to stop the senior citizen from charging at Adnan.
“The police said they have not submitted the investigation report to the Attorney-General's Chamber. They wanted us to report back after two weeks on Jan 9 to know whether we will be charged or not,” said Wong when contacted today.
The police also requested him to have his statement recorded again because the first statement recorded on Dec 12 has gone missing.
The two are being investigated under Sections 186 and 189 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions and for threatening injury to a public servant.
“The investigating officer showed me some photographs taken during the incident. I believe they were taken by the Special Branch officers. She also told me that a police report has been lodged by the security personnel of the state secretariat building,” said Wong.
Both Tuw and Wong were arrested after Tuw tried to demand an apology from Adnan outside the MB’s office at the state secretariat building in Kuantan on Dec 12.
Disgruntled with Adnan’s remark
Tuw was disgruntled with Adnan’s earlier remark that the participants in the 300km Green March from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur last month had only walked 200m and completed the rest of their journey “in luxury and in motorcars”.
She was among the activists who joined the march organised by Himpunan Hijau to protest against Lynas rare earths refinery in Gebeng, Kuantan.
The heatedconfrontationbetween her and Adnan saw them chiding each other with abusive words such as “gila” (crazy) and “binatang” (beast).
Adnan reportedly took out a stack of ringgit notes, with which he tried to pacify Tuw, who then threw a poster she was holding at Adnan. The police blocked her move.
The furious activist then tried to charge at Adnan, but she was stopped just in time by two of her friends including Wong, who had rushed to the scene after being informed.
Tuw and her friends were later arrested by police and taken to the Kuantan police district headquarters. They were released after some four hours.
