The former chairman of Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce Abdul Rahman Maidin, who recently joined PAS, has accused former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad of causing what he called hardships for Malays in Penang.
Abdul Rahman chided Mahathir for blaming the Chinese over complaints that Malays were being sidelined in the island state.
“Why raise the issue of Malays being sidelined (now)? (When) the Chinese were with UMNO, he did not say anything. Now when the Chinese deserted UMNO to be friends with PAS and PKR, they are being faulted," Abdul Rahman said.
Abdul Rahman himself was recently accused by MCA of being a racist.
The Chinese-only party's Youth leader Wee Ka Siong described him as someone with "extreme racial thinking", recalling their interactions at the Second National Economic Council from 1999 to 2000.
In an interview with Harakah, however, Abdul Rahman
sang praises to the current DAP-led Penang state government for its good management.
“Whatever implemented by BN clearly shows they had not been smart in ruling. The people’s money was wasted on useless projects,” he added.
The full interview with Abdul Rahman can be read in Harakah's next edition.
