Guan Eng sues Penang Umno Youth chief for slander

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 14 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today filed a suit against Penang Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin in the High Court for uttering slanderous words against him in October.
Lim (picture) claimed that Shaik Hussein had on October 5 irresponsibly and with malicious intent verbally told a Malaysiakini reporter that Lim was corrupted and had received bribes from Kuala Lumpur International Dental Centre (KLIDC).
He contended that Shaik Hussein’s statement appeared on the online news portal on the same day.
Lim claimed that the statement that was published was meant to imply that Lim was corrupted, had received bribes from KLIDC and in doing so had committed a crime punishable under the law.
In his application, Lim denied the truth of the statements that Shaik Hussein made and claimed that Shaik Hussein did not verify his facts, had refused to apologise for his statements despite being sent notices and had uttered those words with malicious intent.
In his application, Lim also applied for an injunction to stop Shaik Hussein and his agents from repeating the slanderous words against him.
Lim, who personally went to the High Court with his counsel Jagdeep Singh Deo to file the summons, is also seeking general damages and costs.
