Help from TNB, police sought in Selangor govt's WAR ON VICE

Help from TNB, police sought in Selangor govt's WAR ON VICE
The Selangor state government is seeking cooperation from the police and national power company Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s help in its current battle to eradicate vice and illegal gambling outlets which have mushroomed in the state over the years.
Local Government, Research and Development exco Ronnie Liu said local councils' limited powers meant little success in the campaign, and said cooperation from the police and TNB could stop premises indulging in vice activities.
He said TNB could help by cutting power supply to these premises once they were identified.
“The issue lies in enforcement, and the police is more powerful than local council enforcers. Enforcement by the police is more important than local councils,” he added.
Ronnie hit out at UMNO who had been blaming the Pakatan Rakyat government over the mushrooming of vice centres, and pointed out that the present administration had not issued any new entertainment, massage parlour or gambling licences since taking over in 2008. He however added that many illegal centres had since begun operation illegally.
A recent report had claimed that gambling dens had multiplied in Selangor in Petaling Jaya, Klang, Sungai Buloh, Selayang, Batu Caves, Rawang, Gombak and Kepong.
Klang municipal council member Azmizam Zaman Huri said regulations on power supply must be tightened at the Federal level to prevent the mushrooming of illegal video games and gambling dens.
“They are operating without licence. Their basic supplies are water and electricity,” he said.
