Selangor to dismantle AES cameras on Friday

Two Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras in Selangor will be removed by the respective local authorities on Friday.

NONE"I will inform the press of the time," said Ronnie Liu, the state executive councillor in charge of local government.

The speed cameras are placed at the 6.6km point of the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and at the 301.6km point in the North-South Highway.

Liu also rejected the authenticity of a photograph being circulated online, purportedly showing workers dismantling a speed camera along the SKVE.

"It is fake. It could have been (taken) when they were putting it up. I have sent people to check and the cameras are still there," he said.

The move to dismantle the speed cameras follows Liu's Nov 14 ultimatum to the AES contractors to remove the equipment within two weeks.

Liu said the Road Transport Department and its contractors had failed to apply for a development order to install the cameras and that these are therefore illegal structures.
