The 'Orange Tour' to highlight injustices on Felda settlers came to a halt yesterday when participants of the convoy was attacked by a group of UMNO supporters armed with sticks.
The incident took place at 11.00 am when the convoy organised by whistleblower group National Felda Children's Association, or ANAK, was about to enter the Bukit Rokan Utara Felda settlement in Negeri Sembilan.
Organisers called off the convoy after ANAK information chief Naraza Muda passed out after being attacked with a sharp object, while the windscreen of a four-wheel drive truck belonging to ANAK was smashed.
The incidents prompted organisers to immediately call off the tour, following information that more UMNO supporters were prepared to unleash violence.
Earlier, a group of UMNO supporters blocked the convoy from entering the settlement.
ANAK deputy president Aris Fezol described the incident as the worst the group encountered so far despite earlier attempts to stop their advance.
The attack comes in the wake of ANAK's continued campaign to remove Felda chairman Isa Abdul Samad, the former NS chief minister.
"They are left with no other method but violence," said Aris.
He said the inaction by police over an earlier police report over violence against the convoy in Perak had only encouraged certain quarters to continue such attacks.
On Saturday, the convoy led by its chairman Mazlan Aliman and PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was blocked by some 100 UMNO supporters at Felda Jengka 23 in Pahang.
After convoy participants were harassed by the mob using vulgar language and not allowed to perform the Asar prayer, they proceeded to Felda Jengka 12 for prayer.
However, the convoy was later again denied entry to Felda Jengka 11 for a ceramah.
A source told Harakahdaily that Tuan Ibrahim managed to 'sneak in' before the Isha' prayer to address the crowd at the ceramah, while Mazlan spoke at another ceramah outside Jengka 11.
