Nusa Jaya ballot papers found in ballot box for Mahkota

A police report was today lodged over the discovery of four ballot papers from the Nusa Jaya state constituency in a ballot box at a completely different constituency.

According to Johor PAS Youth chief Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, a PAS counting agent at the Mahkota state constituency made the discovery when counting was done for advance votes on May 5.

Khairul Faizi, who lodged the police report at the Kluang police station, said the agent realised this when he saw PAS candidate for Nusa Jaya, Salahuddin Ayub’s name on the ballot paper.

“He protested to the Election Commission officers, but instead of the ballots being counted for Nusa Jaya, they were considered as spoilt votes.

“We have consulted with our lawyers and decided to lodge a police report today as we suspect the Mahkota advance voting ballot box, which was sealed and placed at the police station, may have been tampered with,” he said.
He added that the counting agent, however, did not take note if the ballot papers had been in favour of Salahuddin, who lost the Nusa Jaya seat to BN’s Zaini Bakar by 2,201 votes.

Mahkota is located under the Kluang parliamentary constituency, while Nusa Jaya is located under the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency.
