Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim confirmed he will be attending Parliament on Monday to take his oath as a Member of Parliament, along with other Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives.
"We have never wanted to boycott the oath-taking only the briefing. Of course, we have to be there on Monday to support our candidate to be the Speaker," Anwar told a press conference on Wednesday.
"We don't want the post of Speaker to be a rubber stamp for Umno-BN".
He was referring to former Federal Court judge Abdul Kadir Sulaiman, who has been named as the Pakatan Rakyat's candidate for the Speaker's post.
Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno-BN coalition has announced they will re-nominate the controversial Pandikar Amin Mulia, much criticized for subservience to his Umno party, for the powerful post.
