Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Osman Salleh confirmed there were no new wounds or bruises found on the body of the 42-year-old detainee who died during custody in a lock-up at the Tampin police station on Saturday evening.
Osman told media that post-mortem on P. V. Karuna Nithi revealed that there were only old wounds mark on his body due to previous accident.
"As for now, the cause of death have yet to be ascertained. We are still waiting for a full post-mortem result which is expected to be completed soon," said Osman at the state police headquarters at Seremban here today.
He said police are still investigating whether Karunai who is an alcholic, suffered from any sickness or diseases.
"I hope the public would not speculate on the circumstances leading to his death and not believe rumours being spread on the social media network," he said.
Karuna was discovered unconscious by policemen on duty around 6.30pm. Police called for an ambulance from Tampin Hospital, but paramedics pronounced Karuna dead when they arrived at the scene.
Karuna was arrested by police on Monday after he allegedly hit his wife on the head with a helmet in Taman Muhibbah, Gemenceh, on Tuesday.
He was charged at the Tampin magistrate's court on Friday under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by dangerous means.
He was supposed to be sent to the Sungai Udang prison in Malacca on remand the same day he was charged in court, but the order was delayed until Monday.
Karuna had allegedly refused to eat two days before he was found dead.
