Pakatan Rakyat has questioned the Registrar of Societies why their application to be registered as a political party was denied while three secret societies were successful in their registration.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic) claimed RoS failed to get back to them on the status of their application, which was submitted on November 30, 2009.
He said since then, the coalition did not receive any formal reply from RoS on the status of its application.
"We know that RoS has recently admitted that there were three secret societies registered with them. If RoS can approve their application, then our application should be approved quickly since we are neither gangsters nor secret societies," he said at a press conference at PKR headquarters today.
He said they only found out about the status of their application from news reports today.
The Star reported that RoS could not process Pakatan Rakyat’s application because they had not informed RoS about changes in the coalition’s pro-tem committee since 2009.
RoS director, Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman said that the coalition had only sent an application to be registered as a political party once.
