The EO6 after their release in July 2011. – The Malaysian Insider pic, October 8, 2013.A civil suit by Parti Sosialis Malaysia against 82 individuals for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment of six of its party leaders under the Emergency Ordinance in 2011 has been settled out of court.
The parties today agreed to an out-of-court settlement after the defendants agreed to pay RM201,000 in damages to the six plaintiffs.
The six, also known as EO6, are Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj and PSM activists Choo Chon Kai, Sarat Babu, M. Sarasvathy, M. Sukumaran, and A. Letchumanan. They sued 82 individuals, mostly police officers.
The suit was filed in March last year and among those named as defendants were the Home Minister, the Inspector-General of Police, the Deputy IGP, the Attorney General and the Government of Malaysia.
Datuk Hue Siew Kheng recorded the consent judgment in open court today.
