Hwa Beng booted out of MCA for inviting Kit Siang
MCA has sacked Lee Hwa Beng, a former MCA central committee member, for inviting an opposition figure to his book launch last year.
This was confirmed by a senior MCA leader who spoke toMalaysiakini on the condition of anonymity.
Lee had invited DAP's Lim Kit Siang to attend the launch of 'PKFZ: A Nation's Trust Betrayed', which chronicled the troubled Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project.
He was once the chairperson of Port Klang Authority (PKA), which, among others, oversees PKFZ. He was an instrumental figure in the independent audit on PKFZ ordered by then transport minister Ong Tee Keat.
When contacted, Lee was unable to provide detailed comment for now because he has yet to receive any written notice.
He also stressed that he was never called for any disciplinary hearing and might call for a press conference soon to elaborate further.
Earlier, Lee took to Twittertoday to announce that he had been sacked, based on information that he had just received.
"Heard (MCA president) Dr Chua Soi Lek just sacked me as an MCA member. Am honoured as he sees me as a threat once I was voted in as a national delegate," wrote Lee.
Lee tweeted soon after the MCA central committee concluded an emergency meeting this afternoon. During the press conference after the meeting, there were no mention of Lee's sacking.
He has served three terms as state assemblyperson for Subang Jaya.
