Soi Lek does NOT want Liow Tiong Lai to succeed him
MCA will soon be led by young leaders if president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has his way.
According to a report in Nanyang Siang Pau today, Chua intends to step down but wants to make sure his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai does not succeed him.
While Liow has launched a roadshow to lobby for support against the motion to censure him at the Oct 20 extraordinary general meeting (EGM), Chua is busy meeting central delegates with his own agenda.
Chua has visited Kedah, Perak and Perlis since last Thursday when he exercised his presidential power to call for the EGM following a petition by 20 central committee (CC) members.
Chua had been telling central delegates he would not defend his post should the resolution to censure Liow be passed and the party No. 2 opt out of the party election.
It was earlier reported that Chua had said he and three other senior leaders – vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung and Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai – would not defend their posts.
A Chua loyalist said if Liow survives the censure motion, Chua will have no choice but to defend his post.
Meanwhile, Save MCA Committee 3.0 chairman Datuk Chuah Poh Khiang has appealed to central delegates to say "no" to the censure motion, saying Chua is using them as a tool to get rid of Liow.
