Happy Malaysian: Kepong Jinjang Anti-Incinerator Committee chairperson Martin Shek is wrong. It is not that the greater the voice/signatures in their petition, the better the chances of engaging the government to relook the incinerator.

Actually your chance came and went, it was actually the case where the more the votes for the BN, the better your voice is. Now your voice is DAP and your invitation to DAP representatives is appropriate as now you want to know what can they do for you.

I must agree it's a strange place for an incinerator, but then maybe there is where most of the rubbish comes from, and by the way the places you mentioned where it will hurt most, is exactly where the BN faced a Waterloo.

Touche: Why can't they have the incinerator in, say Semenyih or Ulu Yam, where there are more cows than humans? Is there an agenda to have it in Kepong where it is densely populated?

Fourtan: Put the incinerator in Putrajaya, seriously. There is ample space, very low density population, requisite infrastructures in place, excellent transport and connectivity between the two major urban centres of Klang Valley and Seremban, lower land value, wind patterns that are likely favourable too (because it's not a valley).

Habib Rak: A balanced waste management plan is an ecosystem. It encompasses proper segregation, recycling and incineration. Within it the considerations of human health and cost are also balanced.

Thus, there is a place for incinerators in waste management. Where it should located is dictated by sound logistic and cost considerations. High density or low density is not the point because every life is precious and important. Safety is what is needed and there are methods to ensure safety factors are incorporated into incinerators.

Safety considerations must be balanced with the risk we face in all aspects of our life, such as traffic safety, smoking safety, common flu safety, etc. We risk life from all forms of safety considerations.

Thus, we must not amplify just one and forget the rest. With proper engagement with the public, an acceptable solution can be found for incinerators. Scare tactics are not the way forward but well-researched and informed decision-making is.
