NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, some 93 school girls have been allegedly sexually molested by a group of unidentified men on a moving train in east India's Bihar state on Sunday night, Xinhua news agency reported.
A senior police official said the school girls accompanied by their teachers were molested by the men after they boarded a train at 10pm local time at the Patna railway station to return to their home state of Jharkhand after taking part in a two-day environmental workshop.
The group of men were said to have forcefully occupied the girls' reserved seats on the train before molesting them for nearly four hours.
Police said a massive manhunt has been launched to track down the culprits.
Women's rights activists have expressed concern that females in the country are unsafe even in groups.
Last year, the fatal and brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old medical student by six men on a moving bus in the Indian capital sparked massive protests and forced the government to introduce stricter laws for sexual offenders. – Bernama
