PAS along with other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be holding a mass protest, to send a strong message to the Bangladesh regime that has been acting upon leaders and supporters of the Bangladesh Jamiat e-Islami.
The protest would be held on Friday, Dec 27 at the Bangladesh embassy in Kuala Lumpur, immediately after Friday prayers.
PAS president, Dato Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, would be leading the protest himself, said PAS deputy president, Mohamad Sabu.
"Among others, we will be protesting the Bangladeshi regime's decision to execute the Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat- e Islami Bangladesh recently.”
"Abdul Quader Molla is only the first victim of the (so-called) International War Tribunal established by the Bangladeshi regime in March 2010" he added.
He requested Harakah, all party members and everyone who wanted justice to prevail in Bangladesh, to spread the word in any way that they could, so a that a large number of people attended on Dec 27.
By attending en-masse, he said, “we hope to send a very strong message to the government of Bangladesh that we oppose their tyranny”.
PAS information chief, Dato Mahfuz Omar when contacted, hoped that everyone especially party members and all Muslims would come and attend this Friday’s protest, as a show of solidarity.
“The actions taken by the Bangladeshi government are attempts to squash its political rivals, and many more Jamiat e-Islami leaders are awaiting a similar fate as Molla’s.”
“This does not end there, as a similar happening is occurring in Egypt, with leaders of Ikhwan Muslimin including Morsi, going to be put on trial soon,” he said.
In Egypt and Bangladesh, the regimes are taking action on its Opposition by abusing the law and the courts, Malaysians had also a taste of this when our legal system was made to follow the instructions of the Executive, during Tun Mahathir’s time as prime minister, and continues till this day.
When asked about Bangladeshi citizens’ here who are also fed up with their government’s antics but are in fear of their and the Malaysian government’s reprisals should they attend the Dec 27 protest, Mahfuz said the Malaysian government should allow their attendance, as it was part of democracy.
Understanding their worry, Mahfuz said that if they chose to not attend it, there were many other ways they could still continue their struggle and fight for justice.
“They must stay steadfast and remain as members or be on the side of Bangladesh Jamiat e-Islami, no matter what happens, no matter how long it takes, until change has occurred in Bangladesh,” he added.
Meanwhile PAS Youth chief, Suhaizan Kaiat, when contacted, also urged all PAS members especially PAS Youth to attend.
“Such a cruelty should not be allowed to go unnoticed, keeping mum would only embolden the Bangladeshi government to continue its relentless executions,” he said.
The deputy director of the Dec 27 protest said they planned to hand over a memorandum to the Bangladeshi embassy during the protest.
"Handing over a memorandum is just the first step, there are other avenues and ways that we would take for example, should the Bangladeshi government continue to act deaf, or should the Malaysian government choose to play dead, on this issue,” he added. - Harakahdaily
