Bid to rob Wan Junaidi's house foiled by alarm

NONEAn attempt by robbers to break into Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s (right) house at Green Road, Kuching was foiled by when the alarm triggered.

According to Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad, the sound of the alarm alerted two policemen and three Rela members who were patrolling near the place.

He said two suspects were seen rushing out of the compound and fled the scene before the patrol team could manage to do anything.

“The alarm triggered at about 3.15am and they (the policemen and Rela members) tried to catch the robbers but failed,” he said.

Initial investigations revealed that the thieves gained access into the compound by cutting a hole through the fence at the right side of the house.

“It was when they tried to force open one of the windows that caused the alarm to trigger,” Roslan said.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi’s senior private secretary Wan Hamzah Wan Paee said the deputy minister and his family were away on holiday.

He said the extent of damages to the house have yet to be ascertained and he would meet the police to seek more information on the case.
