Home Minister Ahmad Zahidi Hamidi said the involvement of a top PAS leader in Shiite activities will be revealed during a special press conference in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm today.
Responding to a question if he was referring to PAS deputy president Mohammed Sabu, the minister replied: "It (the special announcement) is mainly to announce his involvement.""Since he likes to see the evidence, we will show the evidence," Ahmad Zahid (right) told a press conference at the police headquarters along Jalan Dickens today.
"We are focused on issues, we are not playing politics and as far as security is concerned, we have no political agenda."
On Dec 10, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) said it is working with the Home Ministry on claims that a PAS leader is involved in Shiite teachings.
Shiite is outlawed and declared as deviant in this country and the National Fatwa Council has banned its teachings.
During his winding up speech at the Umno general assembly last Saturday, Ahmad Zahid had claimed that a top PAS leader was involved in Shiite teachings and that he would be revealing the evidence.
Although not directly naming Mohammed Sabu, popularly known as Mat Sabu, Ahmad Zahid singled out a "PAS number two" leader as being involved in the matter.
Pressure is mounting on Ahmad Zahid with NGO Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) urging the minister to expose the evidence to back his allegation.
On another matter, Ahmad Zahid was also quizzed on his claim thatthree Pakatan Rakyat leaders had allegedly plotted with terrorists with regard to the Sulu incursion in Lahad Datu.
Asked when he would expose their names or reveal the evidence, Zahid said: "I don't know. I leave it to my (ministry) secretary."
