Dear President Obama,

It was a very strange presidential election that America had in 2008. Senator McCain got the vote from one section of Americans. You, sir, got the vote of the entire world. There will be few who doubt, particularly in hindsight, that Hillary Clinton would have been a far superior President , and the world would not be looking back at what is little more than eight wasted years of lost opportunities and mediocre management .

Speechmaking is clearly a different proposition from actually running the United States of America, and by extension, the world. You were too young perhaps, and certainly too inexperienced, but America wanted a fairy tale ending. And the world thirsted for this momentous sign that equality and freedom would win over racism and tyranny.

So it was a bitter sight indeed for the majority of us Malaysians to see you cavorting with Najib Razak, the pretender to the first office in Malaysia. Najib’s BN lost the popular vote by a significant percentage despite indulging in the shameless use of phantom voters and gerrymandering. This loss for the BN came despite the complete absence of a free press in Malaysia. Instead we have the NST, a poorly-written propaganda pamphlet, and the toadying Star, owned by Umno’s Uncle Tom for the Chinese, the MCA. The BN maintains power by running a police state and with a judiciary that is mostly under their grimy thumb. The mainstream newspapers and television serve a daily fare of outright lies and unconscionable libeling of opposition figures.

Poor Anwar Ibrahim, who refused, and to his credit, still refuses, to knuckle under to the BN, is to be jailed yet again. His accuser is not a private individual who pursued a case against Mr.Anwar as Najib so blatantly lied at his joint press conference with you. In fact, that person met with Najib at his house shortly before making his accusations and met with a senior police officer multiple times as well. It is the most transparent of plots. The Malaysian Parliament has been turned into a rubber stamp, a leering, mocking, caricature, of its model in Westminster. The vilest creatures slither down the halls of the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara, representing the corruption of the BN. They buy and they sell.

Minorities are denied their rights. Freedom of worship, enshrined in the Malaysian constitution, is under grave threat. The Indians, an economically weak minority has been turned in an underclass in Malaysia. Like the blacks in America, they have turned to crime and to gangsterism. They are regularly beaten to death in unsupervised lockups. Those who do not know enough to register their children at birth, find that their children are denied their citizenship, in some vague racist plan perhaps, to reduce the population of Malaysian Indians! Meanwhile, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are made instant citizens if they will only vote for the BN.

Oppositionists are arrested, charged and generally harassed to make their life difficult. The weaker ones are quickly bought over. Perkasa, a racist and fascist outfit, led by the squat, frog-like figure of Ibrahim Ali, is funded by the state. This would the same as the Federal government funding the Klu Klux Klan. The point of all this is simply to ensure the corrupt BN remains in power, so that they may continue to be corrupt.

Here we are struggling and there you go spouting Lincoln and King but think only of TPPA

It is a pity, Mr.President, that you did not emulate Abraham Lincoln, who stood on principle, or Martin Luther King, who paid with his life for demanding his people’s freedom. It is a shame that you have seen fit to invoke them in your speeches. Your actions have given the nod to the BN to incarcerate Anwar Ibrahim for good. You are become the BN’s grinning enabler.

You started your presidency, sir, by accepting a Nobel prize that you certainly did not, and still do not, deserve. And in Malaysia, in return for the most petty of prizes, some pedestrian trade agreement called the TPPA, you have betrayed Liberty, and you have set back our desperate daily struggle to free our country from the decades-long grip of evil men.  - Malaysia Chronicle
