KOTA BARU - It was run or die, so a man whose right hand was hacked off at the wrist by two men ran as far as one kilometre to save himself in Bukit Temalong, Bachok, on Wednesday.
In the 8.45pm incident, Izani Razali, 43, from Besut, Terengganu, had just arrived on motorcycle at his aunt's home in Bachok before two men approached him and started slashing him, severing his right wrist in the process.
His wife, Aidah Arifin, 36, said her husband was in Bachok for work before going to his aunt's house there.
"He left the bike and the severed portion of his hand at the spot where it had dropped and ran for a kilometre to save himself.
"Izani was saved by the villagers who took him to a nearby hospital along with the severed portion of the hand," Aidah told reporters when met at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Kubang Kerian, here, today.
Aidah said her husband was in the intensive care unit of the hospital and doctors had successfully re-attached his severed wrist.
Meanwhile, Bachok district police chief, DSP Abdul Hamid Che Ahmad said a search was underway for the suspects and police urged anyone with information to come forward to facilitate the investigation.
