Party secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he hoped police would deploy personnel there.
"Although there is a police mobile base in the area, it is not stationed near the church permanently," Lim told reporters today.
"Parishioners who attend mass at the church are at risk of being victims of snatch theft and robbery."
Lim was in Seremban this afternoon to pay his respects to Sister Julianna, who died in Seremban Hospital yesterday.
The 68-year-old and Sister Marie-Rose Teng had been attacked with a helmet outside the Church of Visitation last Wednesday.
Lim said he was greatly saddened over the tragedy.
"It is cruel to strike an elderly lady. I do not think that either one of them would have fought back," Lim said.
He hoped that police would apprehend Sr Julianna's murderer as soon as possible as it was no longer a simple robbery case.
Lim said DAP was willing to build a police beat base in the area to prevent such incidents.
"She touched hearts and changed lives, dedicating her life to teaching underprivileged children," Chan said, thanking God for the life she lived in service to the church.
According to the biodata provided by the Infant Jesus Convent, Sr Julianna (pic, left) joined the IJ Novitiate in 1964 and took her final vows as a nun eight years later.
She started teaching in 1968 and her postings included the IJ Convent schools in Alor Star, Batu Pahat and Malacca, where she taught until she retired.
She was then involved in non-formal education/tuition in Sentul, Port Dickson and Seremban from 2001 until two years ago.
A wake service is being held at the Visitation Centre along Jalan Lee Sam today and tomorrow at 8pm.
The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Visitation at 1pm on Friday.
