A PAS member, Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Sathar, has expressed his intention to contest in the Bukit Gelugor by-election, for which nomination day is Monday.
Mohamed Nabi, 63, a retired businessman, is the second person to announce his candidacy today, after Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan, who launched his operations centre in Air Itam today.
However, Penang PAS leader Iszuree Ibrahim (right) expressed surprise over Mohamed Nabi’s move, saying the party was about to launch its machinery and operations centre to support DAP in Bukit Gelugor.
DAP will name its candidate tomorrow, while MCA is still mum on whether it will contest the seat, which its candidate Teh Beng Yeam lost to the late Karpal Singh by a whopping majority of 41,778 votes in the May 5 general election last year.
Mohamed Nabi said he was entering the contest based on PAS policy and the principles of Islam, and that he had dreamt that hudud would be implemented in Penang by 2020.
Hadi urged to contest the seat
He also appealed to party president Abdul Hadi Awang to contest the seat left vacant by Karpal’s tragic death in a road accident along the North-South Expressway, near Gua Tempurong in Perak, on April 17.
“Otherwise, I will stand as an independent candidate. I won't quit PAS and will stay in the party and fight for Islam,” Mohamed Nabi told a press conference today.
He urged the voters in Bukit Gelugor to support him, which meant supporting hudud as well, since he would continue to fight for Islam in Penang.
He also questioned why states such as Penang and Terengganu do not plan to implement the Islamic penal; code when Kelantan had decided to do so.
“Brunei has also started to implement hudud. As I know, it is a multiethnic country and nobody is opposing it,” Mohamed Nabi said.
Asked if he was worried that he could be sacked by PAS, he said he did not think that would happen.
“I do not think so and I also do not think that Hadi will stop me from contesting,” he said.
Mohamed Nabi said he was a former secretary of the PAS Kampung Banjir branch in Batu Caves, but currently serves as an ordinary member in the party’s Gombak division.

Well the TRUTH is he's not a PAS member, but faking it. Actually he's a UMNO member.
