KUALA LUMPUR - Police officers who are obese, especially those serving in the frontline, will face change of duties or be send for physical training to reduce their weight.
In announcing this, police management director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said, an order to this effect would be send to police officers with obesity problem soon.
"This is specially for those working in the frontline like traffic policemen. It is either they be moved to other departments or send for physical training," he said to reporters after a donation giving ceremony from Nur Qaseh orphanage to PDRM in Bukit Aman, today.
On an average, he said, some 32 police officers die a month due to health related issues including heart attack.
"Some of them die when they are on duty due health issues or accidents. The latest incident was when a police officer collapsed and died when he was carrying out his duty inside a police lock up due heart attack," said Mohamad Fuzi.
He urged senior police officers at state levels to monitor their men, especially those who are obese and also to encourage all policemen to maintain themselves physically so that they can carry out their effectively and give good image to the force.

"We have to be healthy as we are working on a 24-hour basis and should be fit to be on duty at any hour of the day. Being obese may lead to poor performance and productive and this could affect their promotion," he added.
Earlier Nur Qaseh donated five units of wheel chair, five units of stick/cane (tongkat), food and a cash amounting RM1,000 to the welfare unit of PDRM.
"Our allocations are limited so we really appreciate all these donation and we will try to use them wisely especially to the officers and the family members who really need them," said Mohamad Fuzi to Nur Qaseh's manager Maya Sofea @ Mahiyah Sulaiman. -Sundaily
