The Selangor government has quashed rumours that the Bibles seized in a controversial raid at the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) earlier this year have been destroyed, saying they are still being kept by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais).
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, however, said no decision has been made yet on the return of the Bibles to the BSM, adding that they are waiting for advice on this from the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"We are writing to the Attorney-General's (A-G) Chambers on how to go about returning the Bibles," he told reporters.
Khalid denied that the 321 Malay- and Iban-language Bibles had been disposed of by Jais as speculated by some quarters critical of the agency for being overzealous in wanting to prosecute the BSM, despite the A-G saying there was no case against the BSM.
"No such thing… Please do not make such unhealthy speculations," Khalid told reporters at his weekly press conference after chairing the state's executive council meeting.
