Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said police would take the middle route in handling conflicting jurisdictions between the syariah and civil courts in child custody battles.
He said police will place the affected children in a child care centre without enforcing either the syariah or civil court orders as this would be fair to both parents.
"With this, both parents could visit the child," Bernama reported him as telling reporters in Kota Kinabalu today.
He said this after chairing a meeting with senior Sabah police contingent officers and district police officers in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
