In the wake of the arrest of Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, the right-wing organisation has apparently tried to soft peddle on its racist rhetoric.
Yesterday, one of its leaders sought to clarify that the movement does not consider Chinese Malaysians as their foe just because of their ethnicity.
“Don’t accuse us of seeing the Chinese race as enemies. The Chinese who do not challenge Islam are our friends,” said the movement’s consultative council (syura) head Sharipudin Ab Kadir in a statement.
Furthermore, he said that Isma regards the Chinese who are Muslims as “brothers and sisters bound by faith”.
“Greatness amongst us are those who are most fearful of Allah. Race, colour, ancestry and status does not differentiate us,” he stressed.
Sharipudin reiterated that Isma’s foes are those who regard Allah and Prophet Muhammad as enemies as well as those who attempt to relegate Islam to the level of human-made ideologies.
“We love our race because the Malays are Muslims. But we are not above other races who are Muslims. We are brothers and sisters in faith,” he added.
Furthermore, Sharipudin said that Isma is opposed to those who attempt to lure Malays away from their religion.
On Thursday, Isma chief Abdullah Zaik (photo above) was charged under the Sedition Act over his remark that Chinese Malaysians are “intruders”.
