No such thing as agents offering discounts on summons, say cops

Police today denied that they had appointed agents for the settling of traffic summonses at a discounted rate.

City deputy police chief DCP Datuk Low Hong Soon advised the public not to fall for advertisements to the effect on social media.

"Check with the police first, do not become victims of this cheating syndicate," he told reporters today.

Low added that police would investigate the matter so that the culprits could be brought to book.

The syndicate was using Facebook to advertise that traffic summonses could be settled through them with discounts from 10 to 50%.

Meanwhile, Low said more than 200,000 traffic summonses were issued in the city from January till May this year.

He also said last year, there were 227 road fatalities in the city mostly involving motorcyclists and that 91 fatalities were recorded in the first five months of this year. – Bernama
