Deputy Chief Minister PRamasamy has issued a warning to book fair organiser Big Bad Wolf for allowing posters that are insensitive to Hindus to be displayed.
"Please be sensitive and do not allow this to happen again.
"Or the bookfair organiser can say goodbye to Penang," he told a press conference in Komtar today.
"Hardly before the controversy over Jais (Selangor Islamic Affairs Department) is over, Hindus are again insulted with such posters," he added.
Last week, Jais drew flak when its officers intervened at a Hindu wedding in Petaling Jaya, and carted away the bride for questioning after being informed that she was a Muslim.
State government officials, including Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Ramasamy, have promoted the book fair, and purchased many books at the event held in Penang in March at the Time Square building.
Ramasamy, however, said he accepted the apology issued by bookseller Bookxcess Sdn Bhd which mass produced the posters of a 1967 Jimi Hendrix album cover.
The album cover had an image of the late rock legend superimposed over the image of Lord Vishnu.
Yesterday, Penang Hindu Association kicked up a fuss over the reprints of Hendrix's "Axis: Bold as Love" album which were sold at the BBW's bookfair in March.
According to news portal Fz.com, PHA president P.Murugiah had written to the Home Ministry on May 1 urging it to take action against the bookseller.
It is learnt that the ministry had seized similar posters from warehouses in Johor and the Klang Valley.
