KUALA LUMPUR - Umno’s leadership of Malaysia demonstrates that Malay rule can be inclusive and fair to the country’s others races, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
Najib, who is Umno president and prime minister, said this when highlighting that non-Malays were invited to the 20th anniversary celebration for the Umno Cheras branch today.
"As Malays, we are moderate and inclusive. That's why even non-Malays are here with us tonight, YB Kamalanathan is also here and all these show that when Malays rule this country, we will ensure fairness to all.
"This is a plus point of being Malays, since before, our openness, our fairness, our moderation, are the characteristics of Malays. Now, god willing, under Umno's leadership we will continue this," he told a packed crowd of Umno national and divisional leaders at the Istana Hotel.
Last month, Najib acknowledged unhappiness with the government’s pro-Bumiputera affirmative action policies were implemented.

The prime minister, however, gave assurances that Putrajaya would make the necessary adjustments to ensure that affirmative action for the predominant Malay community is based on merit.
He also said the success of the Chinese minority was partly due to a “fair share” of opportunities in Malaysia, coupled with BN policies that ensured peace and stability. -Malaymail
