Zahid and chosen few have power to be seditious

YOURSAY ‘The sedition charge only applies to opposition politicians.’

Gerakan: Zahid's non-Malays remark 'seditious'

Vijay47: Gerakan's Youth wing deputy chief Andy Yong, while I must compliment you on your unexpectedly strong statement, I am sorry to sound, well, arrogant, in saying that deputy chief of Gerakan Youth hardly passes muster.

Your modest position in your party suggests that you are alone in the sentiments you expressed against a so-called national leader who is more a source of national shame and disgust.

My perception is proven correct by the insipid platitudes your deputy president himself had to spew out, words that your former comrade, former president Koh Tsu Koon, was renowned for.

Since you feel so resolutely about Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's comments, why does Gerakan remain in BN when its continued presence there merely lends credence and perpetuates the insults, offences, and injustices that non-Malays have to consistently suffer?

What would it require for you and your colleagues to decide it is time to shake off the shackles? In the meantime, MCA and MIC seem afflicted with the same loss of speech that Premier Najib Abdul Razak suffers from.

Amah: Indeed, how come only the deputy from Gerakan Youth speaks? Where are the chiefs? The Youth chief and the Gerakan president? And any noise from MCA, MIC and the BN Sabah and Sarawak parties?

Doc: Dumb Gerakan. The sedition charge only applies to opposition politicians.

Not Smart: With the Umno assembly coming around in November, this tactic of picking on the non-Malays is used to gain popularity.

Two ministers have already started and many more will soon follow, otherwise they will not have anything to shout about at the assembly.

Bash: The truth is that Britain granted independence after a raft of conditions were agreed upon, including granting citizenship to eligible people. As such there is no 'indebtedness' involved, period.

So this so-called home minister should read more about our history, as suggested by the deputy prime minister. We are patriotic to the nation but the constant misinformation by so-called ministers is hurtful.

Rick Teo: Zahid should be charged for sedition since the words expressed by him are inflammatory and incite hatred towards one community. The law should be equally applied to all and he is not above the law.

RR: On one hand, Najib sings about the glory of unity in diversity on Merdeka Day - "My dear beloved Malaysians", etc. Then comes Zahid saying just the opposite and playing to the gallery of extremists and fanatics in his party, Umno.

I am sure the vast majority of Umno members is moderate but is silent for fear of retaliation. But they must speak for the peace of the nation and not to invite the bloodshed of the Middle East here.

What the extremists say of the non-Malays is absolute nonsense. The non-Malays are not fools to support extremists within their own fold or elsewhere, because they only want peace and fairness.

FairMind: Pray, tell us, where have you been "kind" to us? By allowing us to breathe the air? We have to pay for water, electricity, telephone, Indah Water, toll and everything we use despite the crap services.

We earn our own living without being given a single cent. We send our children through university without being given any aid by the government. We buy houses at five percent higher than Malays. We can't buy shares designated for Malays.

We are discouraged to work in the civil service, the military, the police, the Customs Department, the Immigration Department, the GLCs (government-linked companies) and practically all of the civil service.

We are bypassed for the top positions of these organisations. There are certain institutes of higher learning that have quotas for people like us. Similarly, there are quotas for scholarships and financial loans from certain banks.

Pray tell us, how have you been "kind" to us and tell the ordinary Malays if we have really taken anything from them?

JustAMalaysian: I am writing not to comment on Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement. I am writing to salute Andy Yong for his courage to say what he has said. Well done, Yong.

Lonely MidnightSun: Talk is cheap. You should make police reports if he thinks what the home minister said was seditious.

Katusha: That will be the day when MCA, Gerakan and MIC make police reports over this Tiga Line supporter. Don't ever think they will be so foolish to jeopordise their opportunities to get crumbs from their masters.

The Analyser: Unfortunately for you, Yong, seditious statements can only be made against a government. Being a minister, Zahid’s statements are unlikely to be judged as sedition.

GMK: I was losing some confidence with Pakatan Rakyat recently but after this minister's remark, it made me more resolved to stick to Pakatan in the next coming GE.

We still need Pakatan more than ever. BN will not change its racial colour overnight.

Mushiro: Is it okay for Umno if the Malays unite under PKR? Let the Malays unite under Anwar Ibrahim, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli, who are more sincere regarding the Malay cause and the Malaysian cause.

Peace: Umno won't dare to be so arrogant if all non-Muslim parties leave BN. So we should blame parties like Gerakan which give Umno the power to be seditious. -Mkini
