PKR’s president and assemblywoman for Kajang has been endorsed to run in the Permatang Pauh by-election due soon.
PETALING JAYA: Looks like PKR’s president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be having her hands full, juggling her commitments as assemblywoman in Kajang with campaigning for a Parliamentary seat in the upcoming Permatang Pauh by-elections.
Her party’s political bureau endorsed her candidacy late last night and will now seek opposition leader Anwar’s Ibrahim’s views on it, The Star Online reported a source as saying.
PKR leaders however have remained mum about her candidacy, preferring only to say, “We have not decided (who shall run for Permatang Pauh).
“What was decided at the meeting was that Datuk Seri Anwar is going to be consulted regarding the candidacy.
“R Sivarasa (PKR vice-president) will be going to prison either today or after Chinese New Year to seek his opinion,” said PKR vice-president Tian Chua.
The Parliamentary seat in Permatang Pauh became vacant after its MP Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to five years in prison upon his conviction of sodomy on February 10.
A familiar face in Permatang Pauh, Wan Azizah won the seat in 1999 and 2008.
