RAID ON PRIVATE CLINIC IN PERMATANG PAUH HAD NO POLITICAL MOTIVE – HEALTH D-G

DATUK DR NOOR HISHAM ABDULLAH
(Bernama) – The Health Ministry today affirmed that a raid carried out on a private clinic in Permatang Pauh, Penang, on Feb 16 had no political motive.
Director-general of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said the raid was conducted following complaints from the public related to medical services provided by those who were not registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
He said the enforcement action by the Ministry of Health to seize items from the clinic was in accordance with the prescribed procedure to obtain evidence to ensure the validity of the complaint.
“The Ministry is responsible for ensuring patient safety and quality of healthcare provided, not only in the ministry’s healthcare facilities but also that provided by private health facilities, including private clinics,” he said in a statement here, Monday.
A doctor, who might be contesting in the Permatang Pauh by-election (PRK) as an independent candidate, has reportedly lodged a police complaint claiming that the state health authorities had raided and seized patient data in his computer.
He claimed that the clinic was unable to operate now because all the patient data were taken away without copies.
