'SEXUAL EXPLOITATION' at KL nightspot: 100 women detained in midnight raid
KUALA LUMPUR - The music stopped early at a club in Jalan P.Ramlee last night as police rushed in at 11.45pm to check on human trafficking.
Federal Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division principal assistant director SAC Datuk Roslee Chik said the women, aged between 20 and 45, were busy entertaining their customers when the raiding team went in.
He said the raid was conducted by a team of 10 officers and 51 personnel from Bukit Aman led by Assistant Superintendent Ooi Chong Lai after getting wind of sexual exploitation activity at the club.
"When the team arrived, there were about 100 customers at the premises.
Police officers introduced themselves, before they went to check the patrons.
"Upon checks and documentation process, all the customers were released," he said.
Police also arrested a Malaysian woman, who worked as a cashier at the premises, after failing to locate the manager.
Roslee said the women, supposedly 'guest relations officers' were later taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for questioning and documentation.
“Some of them did not have valid identification documents and claimed to be trafficked into the country for sexual exploitation purpose,” Roslee said, adding that police were investigation the claims.
The detainees, who were from Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Iran, Philippines and Indonesia were being investigated under the Immigration Act and Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act. - NST
