GEORGE TOWN: The Syariah High Court has ruled yesterday that Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Tunku Bainun lecturer Teh Koon Hoo was a Muslim convert since last year.
Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin said personal accounts and testimonies from 12 witnesses of the applicant and the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP), clearly proved that the late Teh was a Muslim prior to his death on February 7.
“All evidence showed that the deceased was a Muslim,’ said Mohd Yunus, who ordered the deceased to be buried according to Muslims customs.
The judge came to the decision after hearing and perusing all testimonies and evidence during close door proceedings in the past two days.
MAIPP was represented by lawyer Noor Asyimah Ramli while Teh’s Chinese family was unrepresented.
MAIPP has filed the application under Section 61(3)(10) of the Penang State Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2004 to declare Teh as either a Muslim or otherwise.
