Cops to summon Roketkini editor over ‘Umno lapdog’ article

Police will summon ‎the editor of Roketkini, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said yesterday, after the‎ DAP mouthpiece ‎shared an article on Twitter accusing the police of being Umno's lapdog.
Khalid, who has courted criticism for his "Twitter-policing", took to his Twitter account again to announce that police wanted the editor to provide proof of such accusations.‎
"Elok lah @roketkini hentikan Fitnah dan Hasutan begini. @PDRMsia akan panggil Editor utk kemuka bukti tuduhan ini," tweeted Khalid along ‎with a screenshot of Roketkini's tweet.
Roket‎kini's tweet was linked to an article titled “Demo anti-GST: sampai bila polis nak jadi 'pak turut' ‎Umno?” (Anti-GST demos: how long will the police remain Umno's 'lapdog'?).‎
The article quoted DAP's Klang MP Charles Santiago‎ as saying that the government's responsibility was to listen to the people's grouses, not order the police to arrest individuals who opposed injustice.
"When will the police learn that they cannot continue to be Umno's lapdog? And that they should protect the people's interests?" Santiago was quoted as saying in the article.
Santiago was referring to the arrest of more than 80 anti-goods and services tax protesters at the Customs Department headquarters in Kelana Jaya on Monday.‎
Khalid's tweet yesterday came just one day after he used Twitter to order lawyer Michelle Yesudas to explain a tweet in which she expressed fear that "crazy, rape-frenzied" people comprised the majority of Malaysians.
"Mohon @chelle_yesudas jelas kan kpd @PDRMsia apa yg dimaksudkan dgn tweet di bawah, jgn timbul kan keresahan rakyat," the IGP had tweeted.
(I ask @chelle_yesudas to explain to @PDRMsia what she means with this tweet, do not stir unease among the people.)
Khalid has been repeatedly criticised by civil society leaders and the Pakatan Rakyat opposition for his "Twitter trigger-happy" habits.
He has used Twitter to order his officers to investigate individuals, who were more often than not PR politicians and critics of the federal government, over what they had said on social media sites or in public.
Despite this, deputy home minister D‎atuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar yesterday defended Khalid, saying the top cop was merely doing his job.
Wan Junaidi said Khalid would instead be criticised for being "lazy" if he did not go after those who were causing disharmony.‎
"It is not the IGP who is too much, everybody else is too much. They come out in social media with stinging words and harsh comments that are beyond belief," he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby.
