This is an interesting video that I received by email just two days ago. It shows the Naqshabandi Sufis in Malaysia performing the salawat. They may call it something else. This salawat is being performed in a royal palace in Perak. You can see the Sultan of Perak DYMM Sultan Nazrin Shah as well as Perak MB Dato Zambry Kadir both present.
I believe the late older brother of Sultan Nazrin was the head of the Naqshabandi order in Malaysia. He died not too long ago and I dont know who replaced him as leader. (I dont think Zambry qualifies :)) )
I have attended a couple of these gatherings in KL. The food is superb.
To me the Naqshabandis are interesting because they are peaceful. They are relaxed and they are not tensed up like the other religious groups that do exist. They are not as judgemental - like most other psychotic religious groups.
And their music and singing is good. If you listen to the video, the constant drum beat is intoxicating along with the singing of numerous voices. The human voice can be captivating.
It is said that there are about 60 million Naqshbandis around the world. Their numbers in Malaysia are also sizeable.
I can tell you more about Sufis in general but I better not. Because there will be some who may be drooling at the mouth looking at this video. "Macam mana nak tangkap mereka?"
