KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim has denied the potential use of taser guns against anyone deemed to have broken the law when the Bersih 4.0 rally is held from August 29-30.
He did however admit that the authorities did have such weapons in their possession and were trained in how to use them should the situation call for it.
“We already have it in our possession… but we are not using it for Bersih,” he was quoted as saying by Malay Mail Online.
Yesterday, Chinese newspaper Oriental Daily quoted the deputy IGP as saying there was a possibility police would use taser guns to control unruly rally participants but only if it was absolutely necessary.
“Taser guns temporarily paralyses the target, it has been scientifically proven to be practical,” Noor Rashid explained today.
He advised rally participants to be “responsible” instead and refrain from breaking any laws over the weekend.
“We will facilitate but if laws are broken we will take stern action,” he warned.
