PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department has decided to allow sacked legal officer Jessica Gurmeet Kaur to remain in Malaysia.
The department’s deputy director-general, Sakib Kusmi, announced yesterday that Jessica, a Singapore national, would not be deported to her home country although her status as a permanent resident has been revoked.
“There is no need to deport her,” he said in an interview with the Star Online. “She can apply for a special or social visit pass since she is married to a Malaysian.”
Jessica, who has lived in Malaysia for more than 20 years, was head of administration and finance at the Attorney-General’s Chambers and was attached to the special task force investigating the 1MDB case.
Police recently investgated her and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) adviser Rashpal Singh over the leak of a charge sheet against Prime Minister Najib Razak. Authorities have said that the charge sheet was fake.
Jessica and Rashpal were released on bail after their statements were recorded, but Jessica’s bail was reported to have been revoked last week.
It was reported on Saturday that she had been receiving assistance from Singaporean diplomats.
It was also announced that she planned to file a judicial review against her termination from the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the revocation of her permanent residence status and of her children’s residence permits.
