Deputy president says Supreme Council must have enough evidence if they want to fire him.
PORT DICKSON: A defiant Muhyiddin Yassin has fired a warning shot at the Umno Supreme Council, saying that he is not afraid of action being taken against him for speaking out on national affairs.
Muhyidddin, who is Umno deputy president, said he was not afraid of threats to fire him and warned the Supreme Council not to take action unless they had evidence to back them up.
“I want to remind the secretary-general and everyone at the top to not take action against me unless they have enough evidence to prove that I have done something wrong in the point of view of the constitution,” Muhyiddin said.
Muhyiddin was dismissed from his Cabinet positions as deputy prime minister and education minister last July after making veiled criticisms against party leader and Prime Minister Najib Razak.
He said he and Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman, the leader of a coalition of Umno branch chiefs, would continue to speak up to find out the truth.
The coalition has challenged Najib to step down as Umno president and prime minister after a barrage of criticisms over the past year about his handling of the affairs of government investment company 1Malaysia Development Bhd and a reported foreign donation of RM2.6 billion into his private accounts in 2013.
“I agree with Kamarulazman in that we must seek the truth and we are not afraid to face the axe. By finding out the truth, people will trust us and it will benefit us in the coming elections. But if this goes on, (if the support) for Umno continues to decline, what hope is left for us?” he said.
