Ad agency man, former athlete and UPM student also receive awards at national convention.
LANGKAWI: A university lecturer, Dr Mohamed Muzaimil Mohamad Noor, was among four disabled people honoured with a national award at the National OKU Convention held here today.
Mohd Muzaimil, of Univeriti Sains Malaysia; advertising agency entrepreneur Danny Gnaniah; former disabled athlete Mohd Subhi Long; and Universiti Putra Malaysia student, Nur Ain Nabisya Azmi received the OKU Icon award.
The three-day convention programme began here on Saturday.
The award was presented by Kedah executive councillor Dr Leong Yong Kong, representing the menteri besar, Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
The convention was organised by Langkawi Inclusive Community Outreach Foundation, a non-governmental organisation here, aimed at providing people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in mainstream community-based activities.
LICOF chairman Dr Zaleha Omar said the convention would also be formulating a resolution on the care and welfare of persons with disabilities for the government’s consideration.
