Aspan: March 27 a day for solidarity

He says those who care for the nation, including Musa Hitam, should join Zaid Ibrahim's movement.

KUALA LUMPUR: Political analyst Aspan Alias has urged all of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s critics to attend the March 27 meeting proposed by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim. He sees it as a crucial step towards solving the nation’s problems.

“We need to show solidarity among the people,” he said in his latest blog entry. “We should be united in facing the most devilish government the country has ever had.

“It’s only unity that can bring success to the rakyat’s struggle to save their future. Najib should go. He should leave the nation. The rakyat can find solutions to manage the crisis situation.

“The bottom line is that the country can be saved. There can be a new ambience. The people would rejoice.”

Aspan expressed a wish to see former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam at the meeting. “Musa can lend his hand for the sake of the nation,” he said. “We still respect him. Let’s hope that he takes March 27 as his last service to the nation.”

Alluding to the bad blood between Musa and former premier Mahathir Mohamad, he said this was not the time for enmity but for facing the country’s worst political and governmental crisis since independence. “If not mitigated, and soon, the country will be in shambles,” he said. “We should put aside all old personal dissatisfactions and prejudices. We have a most urgent task before us. It needs a united stand and collective commitment.”

He described Umno leaders who are openly critical of Mahathir as “vulgar and rude,” naming Nazri Aziz in particular.

He said Mahathir made a mistake when he appointed Nazri as a minister. “There were many others who were more suitable for ministerial positions, but Mahathir chose people like him while he was in power.”
Referring to Nazri’s criticism of former DPM Muhyiddin Yassin, he said, “Nazri calls Muhyiddin a dog that bites his boss, but he is doing the same thing to his former mentor.”

He said Nazri and others like him were like football professionals who switch to clubs that pay them more. “They are always prepared to play against the old club that brought them fame.”
