Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor welcomed PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's friendly gesture to the party.
Tengku Adnan described Abdul Hadi's statement that PAS wanted to be friends with those in Umno as "good".
"That's good, if they want to be good friends. We have no problem with that," Tengku Adnan told journalists at a function in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
He was responding to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's remark that PAS is anti-Umno, but not against its members.
Hadi had said this in justifying PAS' refusal to participate in any rally that goes against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is also Umno president.
The gathering is expected to touch on Najib's position as the prime minister consolidates his power amid corruption allegations.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had investigated the deposits of RM42 million from state-owned SRC International and RM2.6 billion from an offshore account into Najib's personal bank accounts.
Najib has since denied any wrongdoings and attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had also cleared the PM of any offences, but the MACC is appealing the decision not to prosecute.
Earlier today, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had urged Hadi to reconsider his decision.
He said Hadi's absence at the meeting may give out confused signals that PAS is supportive of Najib. -Mkini
